PeopleFun Announces Carol Miu as CEO
We’re thrilled to share that AppLovin partner studio, PeopleFun, has appointed Carol Miu as Chief Executive Officer. This is a pivotal milestone for PeopleFun as it looks towards its next era of innovation and growth, as well as the industry at large with Carol paving the way for women in gaming as one of the few distinguished female leaders of a successful gaming studio.
Together with co-founders Tony Goodman, John Boog-Scott, and Angelo Laudon, Carol has played an instrumental role in leading PeopleFun to become known for its standout culture and mission to create fun, quality games.
Now, as CEO, Carol says her vision for PeopleFun’s next stage of growth is twofold: “first, to develop more hit games through excellence at data-driven product innovation, striking the right balance between finding the fun and confirming through rapid iteration and testing that there is broad market appetite for our game ideas, and second, to become best-in-class as a workplace that invests in the professional development of employees, providing unique opportunities to learn and innovate.”
As the first employee on PeopleFun’s product team, Carol made an immediate impact through building and growing an impressive group of talent, including product managers, data analysts, and user researchers. She advanced quickly to Chief Product and Analytics Officer, where she developed product roadmaps and features, and trained the now product owners of every one of PeopleFun’s live titles –– leading to the incredible success of the studio’s top games like Wordscapes and Word Stacks, among many others. As a result of her leadership throughout the past four years, Carol has helped triple PeopleFun’s annual revenue from $100 million in 2018 to over $300 million in 2021.
Carol joined PeopleFun in 2018 with extensive experience in leading diverse, distributed teams in free-to-play mobile gaming –– first at Boss Fight Entertainment on the hit mobile roleplaying game (RPG) Dungeon Boss, then at Scopely as Lead Product Manager on The Walking Dead: Road to Survival.
Alongside Carol as CEO, rounding out the PeopleFun leadership team are Lee Eisenhuth, Senior Vice President of Design; Shawn Lohstroh, Vice President of Technology; Lou Catanzaro, Executive Art Director; and Adam McCarthy, Studio Art Director. And, the team is continuing to expand as it looks to fill more open positions.
You can catch Carol and PeopleFun team leads at the upcoming Pocket Gamer Connects Seattle conference taking place May 9-10, where she alongside Ted McCormick, Lead Game Designer, and Daniel Choates, Manager of User Research, will discuss the design, user research, and analytics considerations that went into the development and led to the success of Wordscapes’ Star Rush tournament feature.
Congratulations Carol. We are so excited for you and this new chapter!
